What is presbyopia?

Presbyopia is an age-related eye condition that eventually affects everyone over the age of 40; even those that have never needed vision correction before. Presbyopia is caused by a loss of elasticity within the natural lens of the eye that makes it more difficult for the eye to focus up close. The result: blurred near vision. Presbyopia can lead to frustrating compromises involving visual clarity, comfort, convenience, and appearance

What is Duette Multifocal?

Duette Multifocal is a state-of-the-art contact lens that delivers true binocular vision at all distances and is available in a select group of practices in 2011. Duette Multifocal contact lenses are like progressive glasses, where the lenses allow you to see up close, far away and everywhere in between. Proprietary MultiPro² technology delivers "simultaneous vision" which allows the eye to easily focus back and forth between distances.

Duette Multifocal combines two types of contact lens materials - a rigid gas permeable center and a soft skirt - into one unique "hybrid" lens. The rigid center delivers clear, high-definition vision. The soft skirt provides the all-day comfort of a soft lens.

Who is an ideal candidate for Duette Multifocal?

  • People over 45 who have ne never needed vision correction before
  • Current soft multifocal or monovision wearers
  • Current progressive glasses, readers or bifocal wearers
  • Anyone over 45 with an active lifestyle

Duette multifocal vs. soft multifocal contact lenses

Duette Multifocal lenses will allow you to upgrade from fuzzy, soft vision to crisp, clear vision. You will experience unmatched clarity when viewing objects at near, intermediate and far in both eyes, while still enjoying the comfort and convenience of a soft lens.

How do I put in the lenses?

There is more than one way to insert your lenses. We recommend you pick the method that you are the most comfortable with. Always wash your hands with a mild soap and dry them well before handling your lenses. So you don't get your lenses mixed up, it's a good idea to handle them in the same order each time.

  • Place the lens between your index and middle finger and put a few drops of solution in the bowl of the lens.
  • If it's hard to support the lens on two fingers you can use the "tripod method" by pinching together your thumb, pointer and middle fingers to support the lens.
  • Occasionally, the soft skirt will fold over. Simply use your finger to flatten it out before putting on the lens.
  • Lean forward and look down at the floor. Sometimes it's helpful to place a mirror flat on the counter to look into as you insert the lens.
  • Pull up on your upper lid with one hand.
  • Pull down on your lower lid using a finger on the hand holding the lens, and gently place the lens on the eye.

How do I take out the lenses?

  • Using one hand, pull your upper lid back.
  • Using your ring finger on the opposite hand, pull down your lower lid gently.
  • Pinch the bottom of the soft skirt and pull the lens away from your eye.
